A night dedicated to bringing together all kinds of people, characters and generations from the Eisbach community — from the old legends to the next generation of river surfers. The idea was simple: show what’s possible on this little piece of river, push the level of surfing and have a damn good time together.

For Nicolas, it was also a way of giving back to the people who more or less raised him at the Eisbach, taught him how to surf and shaped the person he is today. Despite terrible weather and less-than-ideal water levels, around 150 surfers and spectators showed up for some surfing, drinks, fireworks and a healthy amount of chaos.

Unfortunately, the fireworks caused a bit more excitement than planned. Following a reported call from the US Embassy about a suspected explosion, the police weren’t quite as enthusiastic about the show as everyone else. Once the action at the river wrapped up, everyone headed over to the Goldene Bar for the premiere of UPSTREAM.

What was supposed to be a relatively organised film premiere turned into a slightly chaotic family reunion, with 350+ people showing up to celebrate. After the screening, the Golden Room turned into a full-blown party, with people dancing on tables and very little concern for the furniture. And because apparently nobody had had enough, the night continued with an after-afterparty at Charlie’s Club.

THE IDEA BEHIND IT ALL

Initiated and organised by Nicolas Marusa, the goal was never just to host another surf contest or film premiere. It was about bringing the community together, celebrating the people who have shaped the Eisbach over decades and showing how much culture, talent and character exists around one ridiculously small wave in the middle of Munich.

A little chaotic, slightly overcrowded, and probably not entirely appreciated by the local authorities. But exactly the kind of night we’ll remember for a long time.

Made in Munich. By the community, for the community.

A huge thanks to Redbull Germany for getting us out there!
