“With the help of trams, trains and floating couches, it’s incredible the amount of terrain you can ride in the Alps—in a season or even in a single day.”

‘Up Here, Over There’ follows Fredi Kalbermatten, Gray Thompson, and Alek Oestreng as they pinball their way across the immense resort of Saas-Fee, Switzerland, seeking out natural features and finding flow through crevasse-filled runs. The trio let their imagination run wild as the ease of accessibility hovers between wild and tame in a next level cirque primed for creative expression.

The Ensemble

Gray Thompson’s affinity for snowboarding is born out of freeriding and the infinite potential for creativity on all fronts. Whether flowing down faces, creating films or co-founding United Shapes, Gray finds every aspect of snowboarding and its culture worthy of exploration and new ideas.

Fredi Kalbermatten’s journey within snowboarding has been long and inspiring to say the least. From freestyle-heavy, ender video parts in legendary snowboard films to technical freeride pursuits in his home of Switzerland, and now spending a lot of time behind the lens- to this day, Fredi continues to give so much to snowboarding.

Alek Oestreng’s classic style is easy to appreciate and fulfilling to watch. Hailing from Norway, Alek is following in the footsteps of some of snowboarding’s most iconic freestyle riders, picking up where some have left off. He brings his precision and finesse to unique terrain across the globe, though much prefers to spend time locally with his family and lap his home resort.
