Blame it on the Game of Thrones WSL advert. Blame it on foils taking over your local spot. Blame it on money… fluro wetsuits… or anything you see fit.
The fact is that surfing has been a bit of a mess for the past few years. Although, amongst this washed out turmoil, we’re thankful to still find true individuals who aren’t afraid of wearing their heart on their sleeves, and Mike Mailman is one of them.
Originally from California, Mike grew up in Newport Beach, California. A graphic artist from a very young age, Mike first started out doing collages, designing concert fliers and playing in local punk and metal bands, which led him to be hired into the Volcom Art Department in 1996. For the records, the man has been a key part of the graphic identity of the Stone for the past two decades, until 2015 when he decided to focus on his solo work under the name of Pentagram Pizza.
Being based in Seignosse since almost 20 years, Mike truly is one of the most compelling persons to share a few beers with, and if you’re not familiar with his work, we strongly advise you to visit his cyber-portofolio for a healthy dose of surf-based satire. Long story short, we are fond of Mike’s work are hyped to share with you his upcoming exhibition at our neighbours Surfin Estate. Entitled “Til Death do us Part” and described as a “body of imagery depicting one person’s Hate/Love relationship with surfing” the show will be on display for the upcoming two months. Although, if you happen to be in the French South West, we would strongly advise to join us next Tuesday for the opening, and what is shaping up like a glorious evening.
